Life without internet

So, we have been tearing out most of our floors in the upstairs of our house, and are getting ready to tile. It is a really great thing. Our house is over 50 years old. I absolutely adore our house, but there are a lot of things that need fixing up. Our hardwood floor was starting to warp and pull apart at the seams. We got a bid on a tile job, and it was not as expensive as we thought, so we decided to use the money from selling our van and redo the floors.
Well, in the process of tearing out floors, we had to disconnect our computer. At first , Bruce would bring his laptop home, so I could still check my facebook, blog, etc. Well Saturday, the internet line accidentally got cut, so we have not had internet. At first it was absolutely driving me crazy. But, I discovered that I was getting so much done without the time wasting activity I do on the internet. My goal is that when we get reconnected, to really moniter the time I spend surfing. Will I still be on facebook? Yes. Will I still blog? Yes. I will just try to balance my time better.

Scrapbook USA

Saturday was my Christmas!! I look forward every 6 months to leaving my kids with Bruce and heading out to the city with the girls to go to the Scrapbook USA Expo in Sandy. We honestly have no place to shop for scrapbook supplies here in the Basin, so we all save up for 6 months and stock up. It is so fun to just have a nice leisurely afternoon with my girlfriends. This is me with Holli and Danielle at the Expo. We had so much fun. I was also so excited to find one of my old friends from Cedar City, whom I haven't seen in almost 10 years. It was fun to catch up with Eliza and see pics of her cute kids!

Probably the highlight for me was meeting Casey Scott from 2 news this morning. Holli and Danielle thought I was such a geek, but I had to meet him because I love watching his live shots every morning. He was super nice, and even let me get a picture with him. I know, I'm a nerd.

After the Expo, we went and had dinner at the Mayan at Jordan Commons. Yummy mexican food and a diving show. So fun. I ordered a chicken burrito, and when they brought it out, Danielle and I started laughing because the thing was as long as my forearm! Yes, I'm eating for two, but my heck!
We then headed back to Roosevelt, refreshed and ready to be moms again. Thanks girls for the fun day out!

Little Things

The Jazz recently won 12 games in a row. Then they lost 3. After losing the 3rd, Kaden, who is 7 said, "Geez, it's like they've given up or something!" I said that's the Grandpa Rick in him!!

At preschool on St Patrick's Day, we made, magical Leprechaun Liquid, which was lemonade with blue food coloring for the "magic potion". One little boy, looking at every one's green punch moustaches exclaimed "I know why it's magic. We're all turning into Leprechauns!" Too funny.

Another little girl insisted that the leprechaun who we didn't quite catch went to her house. Her mom called this morning and said she spent the whole day looking for him.

When we came in from recess on St Paddy's day, that "leprechaun" had made a mess of our classroom with his leprechaun dust (green confetti). One of the kids asked if I really did it. Another one responded, "How could she? She doesn't leave leprechaun dust when she walks!"

Saturday was the end of an era. Aubree took down all her Princess posters and in their place hung the Jonas Brothers and High School Musical. Am I ready for her to grow up?

I am grateful for angels who answer prayers. Today I was at the grocery store with all my kids. Bruce is in Salt Lake this week. My car door wouldn't shut. The latch wouldn't lift up. I was freaking out and all I could think to do was pray. As I was sitting on the ground in the parking lot, two ladies came over and one said, "oh this happened to me." and then fixed the door. I was so grateful to this complete stranger for answering my prayers.

New Calling

Yesterday was our Stake Conference, and Bruce has a new calling. They just sustained him as a member of the High Council. I know he is going to do such a great job. He is an amazing man with an amazing testimony. He has been serving as our ward's gospel doctrine teacher for the past year and a half, and does such an awesome job. I know he worries about being away from the kids and I, but I feel like we will be OK. About a week before he received his call, I had a feeling that he was going to be in that position in the near future, and that I needed to prepare myself for that. I am grateful for the Holy Ghost and the prompting we can receive if we are in tune. I am also grateful to have such good kids. Last night Bruce said that he won't be here on Sunday morning to help get the kids ready anymore, and I told him I wasn't too worried, because other than Brennen, my kids are good to get themselves ready for church. I just have to get Aubree's hair done, but Bruce won't have anything to do with that! I really feel like our family will be blessed through this calling.

Tyson's Birthday

So I can hardly believe it, but my Tyson is now 5 years old. We had such a fun weekend with him. Saturday, we had a party with some of his friends. It was a Transformers party, and it was a lot of fun!


We played a lot of games and had a treasure hunt for the Allspark, and I learned more about Transformers planning this party than I ever wanted to know, but that is what my boys are into, and I must admit, it is better than Pokemon, which was last year's craze.


He had so much fun at his party, that afterward he just crashed. Too fun!

Sunday was his actual birthday, and I was so excited because we got him a new bike. He loves to ride bikes, but he has been using the old 12 incher and has just outgrown it. We got him a Transformers bike and he was do excited! We actually wraped a box and inside was a paper that said your present is in the garage. He went out and opened the garage and as soon as he saw the bike he just started screaming.


We havn't got him off it since!


This is my attempt at a transformer cake. For those of you uneducated on Transformers, this is the autobot mark. The Autobots are the good guys. I guess it was good enough, because Kaden requested the same cake for his birthday!
We had a good time, and now Tyson is 5! What a big boy! We love you buddy!

Some Random Thoughts

THOUGHTS ON GENERAL CONFERENCE

This morning I read an article in the March Ensign about preparing our families for General Conference. It was really interesting to me because that is something I think about a lot every 6 months. It is something that I really struggle with as a mother, teaching my kids about the importance of conference, and making them watch part of General Conference, and teaching them about reverence. We are so blessed to live in this day and age with all the technology to be able to watch conference from the comfort of our own homes, but it is kind of a double edged sword, because it also makes my kids not act as reverent as they do in church when they are all dressed up and sitting on a bench.
Anyway, one of the ideas given in the article was a Mom who said during conference, they made a tent to sit in and talked about during King Benjamin's time, they pitched their tents toward the temple to hear King Benjamin's address, and that we have the same opportunity during conference. Then they watched from their homemade tent and even made a picnic lunch to eat during the session (which I'm sure was also to keep them quiet for a minute). There were a lot of other good ideas, but I think that this year, we will try that one. I think the Monday before conference, we will have a family home evening to learn about King Benjamin and prepare for conference.
There were so many good ideas in the article for families of all stages. I recommend reading it!

THINGS I LEARNED THIS WEEK

Duct tape really does remove warts. I tried it this week, and for me that is a great discovery, because it is way cheaper to buy Duct tape than to visit a Dr's office.

We have a really great ward that really is like a family. It is one of the things we love most about Roosevelt. I have watched so many people pitch in and help a good family this week who are struggling in these tough times, and it has been a beautiful thing.

We should not be so judgemental of each other, especially in the church. Sunday, one of the speakers in Sacrament meeting said something that really struck me. He was reading a statement from Elder Oaks about how we need to prioritize what we do with our children and family activities. Then he said that this doesn't mean every family in the church should be the same. we need to prayerfully decide what is best for our families and then not judge one another in our decisions. What is best for our families, may not be the best for someone else, and really it is not our place to judge. This is something I really need to work on.

THINGS THAT BUG ME
Melissa posted on her blog a few weeks ago different things that bug her. he tagged me, but i never did it, but this week I have been thinking about it. I am modifying it thought to things that bug me as a preschool teacher.
It bugs me that people take advantage of me. This week I had a mom call while I was in my morning session and leave a message saying she had an appointment in Vernal and wouldn't be back until 45 minutes late. Could I keep her little girl til then. Well I didn't get the message in time to call her back, so I was stuck. And, she showed up 2 hours after school was over. After school, I want to be my kids mom, not your free sitter.
It bugs me that people don't read the information sent home, and then get mad at me because they didn't know.
It bugs me when people bring their kids to school 20 minutes early and pick them up 15 minutes late. I do have a life outside of preschool.
It bugs me when I have to chase down payments. I don't charge a lot for preschool, but I would like to get paid. Would you not pay your other bills until somebody bugged you? I hope not.
