I don't want to drive up to the pearly gates in a shiny sports car, wearing beautifully tailored clothes, my hair expertly coiffed, and with long perfectly manicured fingernails. I want to drive up in a station wagon that has mud on the wheels from taking the kids to scout camp. I want there to be a smudge of peanut butter on my shirt from making sandwiches for a sick neighbors children. I want to be there with a little dirt under my fingernails from helping to weed someone's garden. I want to be there with children's sticky kisses on my cheeks and the tears of a friend on my shoulder. I want the Lord to know I was really here and that I really lived.

Finishing 1st Nephi

So we recently started reading the Book of Mormon with our children. This is not a new thing to our family as we have read it through a couple of times already, but this time through, I wanted to make it a little more exciting for my kids to help them be excited about reading the scriptures, but at the same time tie it into what we are learning. Then while blog hopping I found this Book of Mormon reading incentive. It got me really excited. I probably am not going to use all of her ideas, but it really got the wheels turning in my brain.
We finished 1st Nephi this week and decided for our reward to sleep in a tent, since they "dwelt in a tent" through most of 1st Nephi. Now we live in Roosevelt, so sleeping outside in Feb. was not an option, so Bruce set up the tent in the basement and the kids had a sleepover party in the basement. (Bruce and I opted to dwell in our beds. We are too old I guess).

  1. Very cute idea to do the indoor tent sleep over! We will have to incorporate that into our book of mormon reading too! Love it!
